DOUBLE CONDUIT LAMP

Double Conduit Lamp finds its inspiration in the various playful objects of the Memphis Group, an Italian design collaborative active through the 1980s. While the Memphis Group’s objects disguised function through anthropomorphic forms, the Double Conduit Lamp exposes the bulb and the conduit, while playing on the relationship between the two. Subverting the expected position of the conduit below the bulb, the cord instead runs through a brass plate and falls in parallel to the lamp’s resin body. The blue resin stem does not carry the conduit but rather mimics its wobbly form. The “faux-conduit” serves only as a structural member between the terrazzo base and cantilevered brass plate.
